Gray Hair

‘Forsake me not, O God, in my old age, when I am gray-headed…’ Psalm 71:16

I first noticed this Psalm at seminary as a senior, getting ready to graduate. A group of us were presenting the Scripture for the day, this being the Psalm. Didn’t take too much notice of it except one of the other students definitely had gray hair. He laughed at the verse and we went on. I think of him whenever I read this Psalm which is for the 14th day of the month Morning Prayer. So each 14th day of each month when I pray this Psalm I offer up a silent thanks for the life and friendship of Jim Thomas. No idea how he is now, but I know both he and I have gray hair. There are moments in our prayer life we think of someone associated with a Psalm, a verse of Scripture, a particular prayer. Don’t forget to pray for them, whoever, wherever they may be, even if you have no idea. God knows and that may be enough.
